Hello everyone. May times I've been asked "How do I use MultiMC?", "How do I install mods on this version?". Well look no further! This guide will teach you how to install mods on Minecraft beta 1.7.3 using the MultiMC launcher. Enjoy!
For the purposes of this tutorial we will be installing OptiFine and ModLoader.
First thing's first, the essentials, these are the things you're gonna need in order to use this guide:
*A premium Minecraft account. Which most of you probably already have. Please note that this guide might not work for people who do not own one.
*MultiMC. To get MultiMC go to this link, and scroll down to the Download & Install section and choose your operating system. This tutorial was made for Windows 7.
*A ZIP/RAR opening tool, if for some reason you don't have one on your computer - download 7Zip or WinRAR. This tutorial was made using 7zip.
*OptiFine for beta 1.7.3, OptiFine version history can be found here., scroll down to Minecraft Beta 1.7.3, open the spoiler and choose your desired version. For this tutorial we'll be using OptiFine 1.7.3_HD_G, Direct link.
*ModLoader for beta 1.7.3, which can be downloaded here.
*Java, yes you need it. Go to Java's website and download the version that suits you (operating system wise).
Now that we have all we need, let's continue to the actual tutorial:
1. Go to your download directory, there you should see all files that I've downloaded in the previous section.
2. Find a file called mmc-stable-win32, open it, inside you should see a folder call MultiMC, drag and drop that folder to your desired directory (desktop, etc.).
3. Open said MultiMC folder, inside you should see a bunch of files, one of them is an application file called MultiMC (there maybe, in some cases, a .exe file extension, ignore it). double click the MultiMC application file, and MultiMC should launch.
4. After MultiMC has been launch you'll notice a Select Java Version Dialog select your java version from the list and click "OK".
5. On the top right corner, under the red X, you'll see a grey and white Steve head that says "Profiles" next to it, click it, and a drop down menu should appear, on the bottom of it there should be a "Manage Accounts", click that. A new dialog should appear, click "Add", another dialog should appear, enter your Minecraft user name (if that doesn't work then E-Mail) and password, then, click "OK". If the account is valid, it will log in and the diaglog will close, after that click "Close".
6. Navigate to upper left corner, there you should see an icon that resembles white page with a yellow star on it, when you hover over it with your mouse it should say "Add a new instance", click it, the "Instance creation" dialog should appear, navigate to the middle of it, there you should see a "Vanilla Minecraft (Select Version)", make sure it is ticked! Below it you will see that the latest version of Minecraft is currently selected (1.9.3 at the time of me writing this), next to it, to the right, there is a button with 3 dots, click it, a new dialog for selecting the instance's version will appear scroll down to "b1.7.3" select it by click on it, and then click "OK", the dialog will close, then click "OK" again in the "New Instance" dialog.
You will notice that a box with a progress bar has appeared, wait about 5-10 minutes depending on your connection for the files to be downloaded. Note, there's a bug that happens some times in which the download will be stuck at around 98-99%, if this happens, open your task manager and end the task called "MultiMC", then relaunch MultiMC, and follow the next step.
7. After the files have finished downloading, you'll notice that a new instance has appeared called "b1.7.3", select it by clicking on it, and then on the right side of the window, click "Edit Instance", a new dialog will open, navigate to the bottom right of it, there you will see "Add Jar Mod", click it, a new window will open, in this window you will select the mod that you will add to your jar file. Navigate to your downloads directory and select "ModLoader B1.7.3", click "Open" and dialog will close. If you have successfully added ModLoader to your jar, you should see it in the middle of the "Edit Instance" window, under "Minecraft" and "LWJGL". Do the same for OptiFine. Click "Close".
8. Navigate to the right side of the window, there you should see a "Play" button, click it, and Minecraft should launch, go to your options menu in-game, and verify that you have indeed successfully installed OptiFine and ModLoader!
Congratulations! If everything works fine, then you've just learned how to install mods using MultiMC!
Use the same procedure to install other mods such as Improved Chat, Inventory Tweaks, Rei's Minimap, etc.
Please note that mods that relay on liteloader, and forge may not work and are not covered in this tutorial.
Thanks for read! Enjoy!
